How Kinora collects, uses, and protects your information, including how phone numbers are handled for the Text Message (SMS) Program.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, information created when you use Kinora, and limited technical information needed to operate and secure the Service.
Account Information
- Name and email address
- Profile photo (optional)
- Account preferences and settings
Content You Create
- Photos, videos, files, captions, comments, and reactions you upload or create
- Memory titles, descriptions, and dates
- People invited to memories, group memberships, RSVPs, todos, plans, and related activity
- Friend connections and group memberships
Sensitive Information You Choose to Provide
- Images or videos may reveal faces, locations, event details, travel plans, health or accessibility needs, religious or cultural events, or other sensitive context.
- Location fields, calendar details, and uploaded media may include information about where you are or where you plan to be.
- Please avoid uploading government IDs, payment cards, medical records, or other highly sensitive documents unless a Kinora feature specifically asks for them.

- Device type and operating system
- IP address and general location
- App usage and interaction data
- Crash reports and performance data
2. Photos, Videos & Uploaded Files
Kinora is built around shared memories, so uploaded media is an important part of the Service. We process uploaded files to store, display, share, moderate, secure, and delete them as requested or required.
- Visibility: Uploaded content may be visible to people who have access to the memory, chat, invitation, share link, or group where you posted it.
- Metadata: We aim to reduce unnecessary image metadata, such as EXIF/GPS data, when media is processed through Kinora-controlled upload paths. Some direct uploads, third-party previews, backups, or source files may still contain metadata, so avoid uploading files that include information you do not want shared.
- People in Photos: You are responsible for making sure you have permission to upload and share photos or videos of other people, especially minors.
- Safety Review: We may review, restrict, preserve, disclose, or remove uploaded content when we believe it violates our Terms, threatens safety, infringes rights, or is required by law.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve our services:
- Provide Services: Create and manage your account, enable memory sharing, store uploaded media, send invitations, and facilitate connections with friends and family.
- Improve Experience: Analyze usage patterns to enhance features and fix issues.
- Communicate: Send service updates, security alerts, and (with your consent) promotional content.
- Safety & Security: Detect, prevent, investigate, and respond to fraud, abuse, intellectual property complaints, security threats, and illegal content.
- Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws and regulations.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:
- With People You Choose: When you share memories, invitations, chats, albums, links, or groups with specific people.
- Service Providers: With trusted third parties who help us operate our services, such as authentication, cloud hosting, CDN/media storage, analytics, error monitoring, email, payments, and customer support providers.
- Legal, Safety, and Rights Requests: When required by law, valid legal process, child-safety reporting obligations, intellectual property complaints, or to protect the rights, privacy, safety, and security of Kinora, users, or others.
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
Service providers are authorized to use personal information only as needed to provide services to us or as otherwise permitted by our agreements and applicable law.
Phone numbers and text messaging. Phone numbers collected for text messaging are used only to send you messages about events you are part of. They are shared with our messaging carrier solely to deliver those messages. We do not sell, rent, or share phone numbers or text-messaging consent with third parties for their own marketing purposes, and no mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. 5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:
- Encryption: We use encryption in transit and at rest where supported by our systems and vendors.
- Access Controls: Strict employee access policies and regular security audits.
- Infrastructure: Hosted with reputable cloud, storage, and security vendors.
- Monitoring: 24/7 security monitoring and incident response procedures.
While we strive to protect your information, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use strong passwords and keep your account credentials confidential.
6. Your Rights & Choices
You have control over your personal information:
- Access / Know: Request a copy of personal information we maintain about you.
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate personal information.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated personal information, subject to legal, safety, backup, and operational exceptions.
- Export / Portability: Download your memories and data in a portable format where available.
- Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time.
- Restriction / Objection: Ask us to limit or stop certain processing where applicable law provides that right.
- Appeals: If we deny a privacy request, you may ask us to reconsider by replying to our decision.
These rights vary by location, including under laws such as the CCPA/CPRA for California residents and GDPR/UK GDPR for users in the EEA or UK. 7. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services:
- Account Data: Retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for security, legal, accounting, and backup purposes.
- Memories & Content: Retained until you delete them, your account is deleted, or we remove them under our Terms. Content shared with other users may remain visible to those users until deleted by the memory owner or removed under our policies.
- Backup Data: May be retained for up to 90 days after deletion for recovery purposes.
- Safety and Legal Holds: Some data may be retained longer if required by law, legal process, dispute resolution, child-safety reporting, fraud prevention, security investigation, or enforcement of our Terms.
When you delete your account, we begin the deletion process within 30 days. Some information may persist in backups or logs for a limited time before scheduled deletion.
9. Children's Privacy
Kinora is not intended for children under 13 years of age, and users must be at least 13 to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, or that a child under 13 has uploaded content to Kinora, please contact us immediately at privacy@kinoramemories.com. We will take appropriate steps to delete the information or obtain required consent where applicable.
Users between 13 and 18 may use Kinora only with permission and supervision from a parent or guardian. Please do not upload photos or videos of minors unless you have the right and permission to share them.
10. Safety, Abuse & Illegal Content
You can report privacy concerns, abusive content, non-consensual imagery, suspected child exploitation, impersonation, harassment, or other safety issues at abuse@kinoramemories.com. Copyright complaints should be sent to dmca@kinoramemories.com as described in our Terms.
If we become aware of apparent child sexual abuse material or exploitation, we may remove the content, preserve relevant records, disable accounts, and report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, law enforcement, or other authorities as required or permitted by law.
11. International Transfers
Kinora operates globally, and your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own.
We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international data transfers, including:
- Standard Contractual Clauses or other approved transfer mechanisms where required
- Data processing agreements with all service providers
- Compliance with applicable data protection laws
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by:
- Posting the updated policy on our website
- Sending you an email notification
- Displaying a notice in the app
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of Kinora after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
